  • 1 Arrive Dubrovnik – sightseeing and attractions Dubrovnik is easy to explore on foot. Its paved town centre is enclosed in fortress-like 13thcentury stone walls – stretching almost 2 kilometres around the old town, the walls offer stunning rooftop and city views out to the turquoise blue Adriatic Sea. Founded in the 7thcentury, for a time the city was a serious rival for Venice in terms of maritime trade, and in 1991, two out of every three buildings were damaged during the bombardment of the Yugoslav War. Since them the buildings and walls have been restored to their former glory and represent one of the most beautiful and solid fortress systems in the Mediterranean. Visit the 14thcentury Franciscan monastery that houses a treasury full of sacred art and artifacts, as well as one of the oldest working pharmacies in the world that dates back to 1317. Transfer to Zaton, a charming and picturesque bay, about 8km from Dubrovnik.
  • 2 Sea kayaking around Kolocep Kolocep is one of the Elafiti Islands. Paddle in and around blue caves, impressive cliffs and reefs, sparkling waters, and underwater worlds, and see delightful cliff-top villages and beautiful forested landscapes. There will be time for a relaxing picnic on the beach, and a leisurely walk around the island. There are no cars on the island and you will be transported back in time to a haven of peace, quiet and tranquillity. After a day on the seas head in to Dubrovnik for an evening stroll around the Old Town and traditional fare at a local restaurant.
  • 3 Mostar visit and canoeing on the Trebizat River We head out to ancient Mostar originally part of the Ottoman Empire and now the cultural and economic centre of Herzegovina. Famous for its Old Balkan Bridge (Stari Most) that was originally built in 1566 but destroyed during the war in 1993 and now been restoredto its former glory, Mostar is an enchanting medieval scene full of twinkling lights, cobblestone streets, and converted millhouses. After a drive to Ljubuski, we take a wonderful canoe trip on the narrow Trebizat River surrounded by lush forests teeming with a variety ofbird species, and the stunningly beautiful naturally formed karst landscape. Enjoy overnight accommodation and a delicious dinner in a traditional family-run hotel on the banks of the river.
  • 4 Rafting on the Cetina River and Split sightseeing After a drive north to the village of Omis, we start arafting adventure on the thrilling Cetina River. With its clear green water, jungle-like forests, caves and waterfalls, this rafting trip is a truly unforgettable experience. Easy enough for families and absolute beginners, even if this is your first rafting experience, it will be a one-in-a-lifetime adventure full of thrills and fun. Enjoy lunch at Radman Mills, a national restaurant set in a beautiful old mill that was once powered by the waters of the Cetina River. We drive to Split, built around the remains of the Diocletian Palace that dates back to the Roman era and now a Unesco World Heritage site. Wander inside and take in Peristil Square where you can see an original Egyptian sphinx that was brought from Egypt by Roman emperor Diocletian. Relax at many of the al fresco bars and restaurant that line the seafront. Later in the afternoon the tour takes you towards Trogir, another Unesco site with an Old Town full of fairytale streets and stone houses of incredible ancient architecture that are filled with beautiful works of art.
  • 5 Zrmanja River kayaking Get ready for a day of thrilling kayaking along the magnificent wild west-like canyons of the Zrmanja River in the Velebit Nature Park. With its perfectly clear and green waters, gushing rapids and waterfalls, hidden swimming pools and steep-sided canyons, this is an adventure to top all adventures. No previous kayaking experience is needed, as long as you can swim. This kayaking experience is great for families, open canoes are used or there are sit-on-top kayaks for 2 people with an optional child seat. After this amazing day on the river, we drive to our overnight stay in the pretty village of Novigrad.
  • 6 Paklenica National Park – trekking A great day’s trekking and hiking ahead in the Paklenica National Park – the most famous trekking and rock climbing national park in Croatia, and walking through this wonderful Park is really the only way to get to know the area. Trek through distinctive canyons that have been carved vertically into the southern slopes of Velebit Mountain by the torrent flows of rivers Velika and Mala Paklenica. These beautiful landscapes are full of exceptional flora and fauna. Walk past charming wooden residences, once lived in by shepherds, and now transformed into summertime lodges. See many ancient buildings along the way including churches, chapels, altars and holy hills. The word Paklenica derives from black pine sap called ‘paklina’ which the locals used in traditional medicine for wound treatment, and for coating of wooden boats. We drive on to Plitvice Lakes National Park and stay overnight in Korana Village – a small and romantic spot that’s hidden away in a valley by a river, staying in traditional dwellings overlooking idyllic scenery.
  • 7 Plitvice Lakes National Park – hiking Plitvice is one of the world’s most beautiful national parks and has an exquisite series of 16 emerald green and opal blue lakes and more than 90 waterfalls. The lakes are surrounded by beech and pine forests and are home to extensive wildlife. Take a walk along the wooden paths and bridges that connect the lakes and the forests and enjoy a picnic lunch in the pure and untouched nature. A panoramic boat and train ride ends the day, and we return to Korana village just in time to enjoy a swim in the clear blue river.

Summer is the high travel season in the Mediterranean. The weather is hot and sunny, the water is warm, and millions of people flock to the coast to soak up the sun and take a break from routine.. During the spring months, the flowers are blooming and the landscape is verdant, while autumn days are mild and clear before the winter rains.

Those wanting to travel earlier in the season can visit some of the more southern destinations as well as the larger Mediterranean islands. Cyprus and Malta are lovely in April, with warm days and pleasant nights. Late March through April is also an ideal time to visit Morocco, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, and Turkey.
