  • 1&2 Madrid, sightseeing and attractions Vibrant Madrid is a city that never sleeps. Visit world-class museums and palaces here such as the Museo del Prado, the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, and Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza. See some of the city’s beautiful architecture that provides a glorious backdrop to city life, from medieval mansions and royal palaces to the delights of Spanish contemporary architecture, from the sober brickwork and slate spires of Madrid’s baroque, the extrvaganza of the belle-epoque buildings. Madrid had more bars than any othercity on earth, so make sure you spend time out and about in the evenings to experience the lively bars and clubs, as well as some of the culinary feasts available at world-class restaurants, including the oldest restaurant in the world, the Restaurante Sobrino de Botin – dishes include roast lamb, baby eels, and roast suckling pig.
  • 3 Madrid – Toledo, sightseeing and attractions Explore the treasure chest of churches, museums, synagogues and mosques of Toledo Old Town, set in a labyrinth of narrow streets, plazas and inner patios. Toledo is known for its art and history, and is has a landscape that combines Arabic, Mudejar, Gothic, medieval and renaissance architecture. Visit the El Escorial Monastery on the way – it’s a combination of a palace and a monastery and features a wonderful collection of art.
  • 4&5 Barcelona, sightseeing and attractions Barcelona is an artful experience. To get a feel for the city, stroll through the Rambla and the Gothic Quarter, and set aside a whole day to see Gaudi’s masterpieces all over the city – particularly the Temle Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia, Casa Mila, and Park Guell. Spend a day in theEixample seeing moderniste architecture and make time to browse throughBarcelona’s sophisticated shops and boutiques. There are so many wonderful restaurants to choose from where you can try traditional Spanish dishes including patatas bravas, tortilla, and ensaladilla.
  • 6&7 Seville, sightseeing and attractions Head off into real Andalucia to Seville, and experience that special Andalucian way of life. Seville is known for its stunning palace and sultry atmosphere, as well as flamenco. There are narrower, winding, andmedieval lanes and squares to explore, more hidden plazas soaked in the scentof orange blossom, and so much Spanish tradition to enjoy including flamenco and bullfighting, and some incredible ancient architecture to see. If there’s one sight you must see it’s Seville’s immense cathedral, officially the biggest in the world, that stands on the site of the great 12thcentury Almohad mosque with the mosque’s minaret still towering beside it. And don’t miss the ruins at Italica, just outside the city.
  • 8 Cordoba, sightseeing and attractions Explore beautiful ancient Cordoba on foot and dive into old bodegas (corner shops and wine stores), and relish the city’s architectural wonders. Cordoba was the Roman and Moorish capital of Spain, and was a leading centre for science and philosophy in the 9thand 10thcentury. Wander the streets of Juderia (Jewish quarter) that stretch out from the great mosquelike little streets and then emerge on some beautiful and peaceful plazas. And visit the Islamic ruin of Medinat al-Zahra that will stir your imagination withits glory and grandeur.
  • 9 Porto, sightseeing and attractions Start off in Porto on the atmospheric Ribeira embankment, and make time for a long romantic dinner by the pier. This is the city thatgave its name to a type of wine and it is here that most of the city’s sights, cafes and bars are located. Learn all about port at the Port Wine Institute, a 19thcentury countryhouse, Take a boat trip on the Douro, whose curve after curve of terraced wineyards form a world heritage site. If time, take a walk in the Peneda-Geres, the country’s only national park that has many marked trails as well as coastal bird sanctuaries.
  • 10 Porto Duoro Valley, sightseeing and attractions Treat yourself to a wine tasting tour along the Douro valley. This is the world hub for those sweet red wines that take their name from theregion’s biggest city. Learn all about the global wine trade that has shapedthis country’s history and tour the port-wine bodegas along the river’s banks.
  • 11&12 Lisbon, sightseeing and attractions On arrival, treat yourself to a traditional Portuguese lunch of Caldo Verde – adelicious soup of onions, potatoes and kale, set off for the Baixa district that is laid out in a neoclassical grid. Explore the shops and cafes and main square of Bairro Alto and Chiado and browse boutiques and art galleries. Belem is home to some of the city’s greatest museums, including the Museu de Art Antiga and Mosteiro dos Jeronimos. And the Alfama district is full of medieval alleys and outstanding views. , Take a guided tour of Lisbon at night and then enjoy dinner and a Fado show – an emotionally charged music evening that captures the spirit of Portugal - in a traditional Porto restaurant.
  • 13 Lisbon – day trip to Sintra, Cascais and Estoril A day spent experiencing Portugal’s golden triangle of Sintra, Cascais and Estoril. See the mysterious caves of Sintra and visit Sintra’s National Palace. Enjoy the Roca Cape Cliffs, the westernmost point of continental Europe. And take a walk along the bay in the glamorous town of Cascais.
