Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the remote Polar Regions of the Arctic wilderness. You will see remarkable birdlife, as well as seals, whales and walruses, and the ‘king’ himself, the polar bear, all in their natural habitat.

Take a summer expedition on board an Arctic vessel to Svalbard’s remote northern and eastern regions and experience the wildlife and fierce environment of the Arctic Ocean. An experienced Expedition Team will be with you all the way, and when conditions allow, kayaking, hikes or other activities may be offered. You will see remarkable birdlife, as well as seals, whales and walruses, and the ‘king’ himself, the polar bear, all in their natural habitat.

Where King Winter never fully lets go of the east coast and where you will see mammals, seals and polar bears floating on large chunks of ice. Where the Gulf Stream of the west coast provides an ideal home for rich and remarkable bird life. See ice, glaciers, nature reserves, fjords, islands, and national parks.

Places covered 9 Days
  • Day 1-2 Longyearbyen and beginning of the voyage – time to explore the town ‘the capital of Svalbard’ and board the MS Fram in the afternoon.
  • Day 3-4 North West Spitsbergen National Park – scattered with islands, fjords and beaches, this area has a long history of exploration and takes in Ny Alesund, one of the world’s northernmost year-round communities.
  • Day 5-7 Eastern Svalbard Nature Reserves and South Spitsbergen National Park – here you will see beautiful bird life. The density of polar bears here is higher than any other areas of Svalbard.
  • Day 8 Isfjorden – a remarkable fjord with an ever-changing landscape, and home to the Svalbard reindeer
  • Day 9 Arrive back at Longyeargyen

  • 1 – 2 Longyearbyen and the beginning of the voyage After breakfast on departure day you will have time to explore Longyearbyen, located in a fantastic Arctic landscape. The history of Longyearbyen is very much of coal mining and its heritage can be seen everywhere. First stop after departure is Barentsburg, a Russian settlement, also with a long history of coal mining.
  • 3 – 4 North West Spitsbergen National Park and the Kongsfjorden An area scattered with islands, fjords and beaches and with dramatic glaciers bouncing into the ocean. We see Ny Alesund, the starting point for numerous expeditions towards the North Pole, the Magdalenefjorden – a whaling station from the 16thcentury, and the Monaco Glacier, home to many sea-living creatures and local sea birds.
  • 5 – 7 Eastern Svalbard Nature Reserves and South Spitsbergen National Park Islands, fjords, glaciers, mountains and spectacular cliffs, as we cruise around these High Arctic nature reserves, virtually untouched by man, keep your eyes peeled for polar bears, bird cliffs, marine mammals, and walruses.
  • 8 Isfjorden This is the most prominent fjord system in Svalbard. Home to thousands of guillemots, we cruise through large U-valleys, carved out of the giant glaciers, where you will also spot herds of handsome Svalbard Reindeer.
  • 9 Return to Longyearbyen

Spring is from May to mid-June is when the scenery in Norway is at its most spectacular, with trees and flowers waking to life,snow in the mountains .Orchards of flowering fruit trees along the Hardangerfjord in May are images of paradise.

In Late June to Early August Norway experiences warm , bright long days with temperatures between 25 - 30°C .With the sea temperatures around 18 °C it’s a good time to swim . In Autumn the landscape is painted Golden making it a good time to to pick berries and mushrooms .You can experience the midnight sun in the Northern most part of the country above the Artic Circle .

In winter much of Norway is usually transformed into a snow-clad paradise and is the time to witness the amazing Northern Lights

Remember that the weather and temperatures can change quickly, especially in the mountains. So whether summer or winter, autumn or spring –and bring good footwear and warm clothes
